In it, the wealthy couple Dick and Jane Jones are searching for ways to appear charitable while spending no money and living safely in their fancy condo. Their solution is to create a program, called “Bag Babies”, where wealthy people can adopt homeless people to improve their public image (the program is tax deductible, of course). Their plan at first seems to be working until Jane’s Uncle George enters the scene and, through both song-and-dance and fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans, makes a mockery of Dick and Jane. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Bag Babies features a six person ensemble cast. All six parts are pretty equal in size, and gender is fluid. Speaks normally and relatably. Don Rickles. Katie Hughes - A hippie turned bald TV reporter/influencer. Loves all the hot celebrity goss. Sparkle glam queen kinda mean though. Speaks “normally”. Rick / Bag Baby Brad / Elgin Marbles - This actor plays three roles. Rick is a rich asshole. Bag Baby Brad is a homeless guy working with George to expose Dick and Jane. Elgin Marbles is Jeff Bezos. As such, each performer will also play a dramatized version of themselves within the show, acting as a host, storyteller, performer, and character all in one. The central roles of each performer are listed below, along with the original performer on the soundtrack (so you can follow along with who is who if you are confused). Note that while some of the characters in the script/description are gendered, performers of any gender are encouraged to audition for every role. We look forward to receiving your auditions!
